Appreciation Society: an introduction

in·fat·u·a·tion [in-fach-oo-ey-shuhn], nounfoolish or all-absorbing passion
Examples: stamp collecting, stalkers, and most importantly:
fangirls.

Every girl (and even some boys) have had some moment in their life being a fangirl(boy), and if you haven't yet- don't worry it'll come. I remember a few years ago I was a huuuuge Queen/Beatles fangirl, and it was pretty bad. I'd only listen to those two bands (which isn't bad at all really) and I would talk about the members 24/7. Whether it was their adorable haircuts in 1965 or the song they totally wrote for me in a past life- I would not shut up about these guys. I had posters, t-shirts, buttons, records, books, dvds, cds, and basically anything else you could think of (I still have some stuff, but on a smaller scale). Now that I've grown a little I've come to realize that it's unhealthy to obsess over one thing (even though I still kind of do it) and I just like a bunch of stuff so I feel like I'm not really a fangirl but more of a fellow musician/admirer. What people don't realize is that they are many types of fangirls.

Type: The Beatle fan
Qualifications: She/he is merely infatuated to a wild extent with getting everything with her obsession's face on it, squeals every time she sees her favorite member, very protective of their favorite member, and tends to think every song is written for them.
Age: early to late teens
Then: Started in the 1960s with the Beatles, Herman's Hermits, The Monkees
Now: Justin Bieber, One Directions, Jonas Brothers

Type: The Screamer (literally)
Qualifications: Normally doesn't know the words to the songs, because they're too busy screaming their heads off, makes it hard to hear at concerts (or movies), can also be a Beatle Fan, an emotional wreck
Age: teeny boppers (10 - 13 years old)
Then: it didn't matter what band it was, they just screamed every time they saw them
Now: see 'then' above

Type: The Speechless (once again: literally)
Qualifications: mouth is wide open, eyes wide, sometimes crying is involved, they don't make a sound, do they even breathe?
Age: anywhere from early teens to young adult
Then: people at music festivals (Monterey Pop 1967, Woodstock), the crowd on the Ed Sullivan Show, liked The Who, The Beatles, Donovan, The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Now: Lady Gaga, Adele (i'm not too sure about anyone else)

"mouth is wide open, eyes wide..."

Type: The Dedicated
Qualifications: most likely president or part of a fan club based organization, gets other fans to send them letters to give to bands, has every album, knows all the songs, who played/sang/wrote what song, even appreciates the bad album (every band has one), goes to every concert when the band comes to town, tries to get back stage
Age: 15+
Then: Kim MacAfee (Bye Bye Birdie), Riff Randell, fan club member
Now: I honestly don't know of any. Are there even fan club organizations around anymore?

these are a few of my favorite things

these are a few of my favorite things
BDG cropped jean jacket / Moschino Cheap & Chic patterned skirt / F-Troupe mesh shoes / Flat oxford / ASOS tahitian pearl jewelry / Punky Pins retro jewelry, $23 / Delfina Delettrez , $475 / Wildfox Couture / Warehouse hair accessory, $11 / Girls' rose flower pin

I've known about Polyvore for a while now, but I've never made it to the site. Today I was at home (still sick blergh. september is the worst month for allergies) and I needed something to avoid doing homework. I thought, "Say, I'll finally look at polyvore. Everyone seems to love it." I can see why so many people love it! You get to gawk at pages and pages and pages of fashion/art/etc. and make a collage with it! It's a dream come true. But I fee like this set of fashion describes my current fascinations(obsessions, basically) with modern fashion. Obviously some of these pieces look vintage (maybe that's why I like them?), but they're just so great oh my gosh why don't i own them? OH RIGHT, because they cost lots of money. I'll just look at all the pretty fashion for now.

Now I realize that my posts have been sort of short lately, but I'm currently in the process of working on a big one! I'm really excited for it because it's going to be my next group of posts with a theme: Infatuation. It's going to involve fangirls, hoarders, and all that jazz. If any of you cool cats have a suggestion let me know via e-mail or comment below!

the land of tulle

sweater: forever21, polo: thrifted, shorts: vintage, socks: kohls(?), shoes: bass

my hair is a mess, i apologize.

I'm in love with tulle!! It's so pretty and girly and perfect. I don't know what is lately but I'm very into girly stuff (maybe it's because I'm a girl? nahhh that can't be it) and girl bands. I just discovered Hole's album Live Through This and OH MY GOSH, it's really great. I highly recommend it. There's a million other girl bands/singers that I've been getting into as well, but I keep coming back to Hole. Any who I've been experimenting with mixing patterns lately and I find it much more interesting than keeping to one piece of clothing with a pattern. A lot of people tell me "Ummm, you're not matching" but that's okay! It doesn't bother me at all. Okay wow, I really need to do my homework (how lame of me, i know.) because i have lots of it (i have to read/annotate 40 pages about early colonial life AND I have physics homework). Urghhh who said high school was fun?

1. Be My Baby - The Ronettes
2. You Know I'm No Good - Amy Winehouse
3. Run, Run, Run - The Supremes
4. Chick Habit - April March
5. Woo Hoo - The 5, 6, 7, 8's

the ballad of betsey

all pictures can be found at style.com

Can we just talk about how perfect Betsey Johnson's latest collection is? I love how the collection starts out really bright with complex patterns and then simmers down to these beautiful, pastel, tulle skirts and dresses. And how great are the "betsey" necklaces on each model?? It's just SO PERFECT. And apparently Cydi Lauper sang at the end of the runway show! Now I'm not the biggest Lauper fan but what a great way to end a show. So kudos, Betsey you rock.

On other news: I've been SUPER busy lately do to school (theatre, college history class, advanced physics, blahblahblah) but I've been working on ideas for upcoming/reoccurring posts. So far I've got outfit posts, and diys. Is there anything else that you readers (if I have any)would be interested in? Because I would love to do something that you guys would enjoy as well. If any of you have any ideas/suggestions feel free to leave a comment below!

DIY: bottlecap pins

Time for my first ever DIY: Make your own bottlecap pin (or ring)!

What you'll need:
  • bottlecap from a glass bottle (when i get the occasional soda, i get the glass bottles. you can also ask someone for their's if they're drinking beer or something in a glass bottle. but this doesnt mean go get a beer for yourself, unless you're of legal age. then you can do whatever you want)
  • a small picture (on computer paper is the best, magazine paper works too)
  • tacky glue (or any kind of concealer glue. like resin i guess?)
  • super glue
  • hot glue (optional)
  • pinback or ringband (these can be find at michaels or any big crafty store)
  • pencil/pen
  • ribbon/lace (optional)
  • scissors

 1. Get all of your supplies together! (I know realize that I didn't get a picture of all the supplies listed. I apologize.)
 2. Grab your bottlecap, picture, and pencil. Put the bottlecap on top of the picture and trace it.
 3. Cut out the picture on the circle you just drew from the bottlecap.
 4. Get your tacky glue (resin, whatever) and put a layer of glue inside the bottlecap, and then place the picture inside the bottlecap. Make sure you get all the air bubbles out!
 5. Put another layer of concealer/glue/resin on top of the picture. It won't be clear at first but once it starts to dry it will! (Depends on the glue but this step can take up to 2 hours for the glue to fully dry)
6. Now get your super glue and glue the pinback to the back of your bottlecap. (You might want to have it level with the picture so it's easy to put it on later). During this step you can hot glue the ribbon or lace if that's what you're into. If not skip to step 7 now.
7. Now you're done! Go put it on. (The picture in the pin seems smeared and overly shiny, but I promise that's just the lighting)

Fort Winslow

So this weekend I hung out with my friend, Cass- who I haven't in almost two months. We spent the majority of the whole weekend by combining a sheet fort and a pillow fort, watching films, making things, and dressing up as famous people (Andy Warhol & Edie Sedgwick to be exact). The whole weekend was filled with nostalgia and it seemed like it only lasted a few minutes. It's sort of sad because I have to take down the fort tomorrow. I don't know if it's sad in the way that it was so much fun and I'll miss it or the fact that I have to put away everything (which is a lot of things)...
